Freemasonry in Gosport

A local introduction to Alwarestoch Lodge, our home at Gosport Masonic Hall and the next steps for anyone curious about joining.

A Gosport lodge with a story of its own

Alwarestoch Lodge No. 7805 has met in Gosport since its consecration on 21 February 1962. We are one of the town’s Craft lodges, meeting at Gosport Masonic Hall on Clarence Road. Our name recalls an early form of Alverstoke, connecting the lodge with the history of the place where we meet.

This is the website of Alwarestoch Lodge. We belong to the Province of Hampshire & Isle of Wight under the United Grand Lodge of England; the Province’s Solent Area directory lists the other lodges in Gosport and the surrounding area.

Getting to know Freemasonry

If your first question is what Freemasons actually do, start with our explanation of Freemasonry. It introduces lodge meetings, ceremonies, friendship and charitable activity. You can then read our joining guide or answers to practical questions before deciding whether to make an enquiry.

Our home: Gosport Masonic Hall

We meet at Gosport Masonic Hall, 5 Clarence Road, Gosport, Hampshire, PO12 1BB. Several lodges share the hall. Our Temple page shows the setting for our meetings, while the contact page provides directions and map links. Confirm access and parking arrangements before travelling; the Secretary can help with particular accessibility needs.

When Alwarestoch meets

Our seven regular meetings are on the second Wednesday of September, October, November, December, February, April and May. The lodge calendar gives individual dates and meeting pages. Confirm the start time with the Secretary.

Regular lodge meetings are for members and visiting Freemasons by prior arrangement. They are not public drop-in sessions. If you are considering membership, ask to meet us informally first. Public and social events are identified separately when confirmed.

Interested in becoming a Freemason in Gosport?

You can contact us directly even if you do not know a Freemason. Making an enquiry gives you the opportunity to talk with members, discuss what you hope to gain and ask about the time and financial commitments. It does not commit you to joining.

Start with Become a Freemason in Gosport and use our membership enquiry form. If another meeting day or location would suit you better, the Province can help you explore other lodges.

Already a Freemason? Arrange a visit

Visiting is an important part of lodge friendship. Please use our visitors page to contact Alwarestoch before attending, confirm the meeting arrangements and discuss dining. A meal booking alone does not confirm admission to a lodge meeting.

Our history and heritage

Explore the history of Alwarestoch, including the founding brethren and original warrant. The Honour Board records those who have served as Master; our memorials remember departed brethren. The Masonic family tree places Alwarestoch within a wider lodge lineage. These records give a picture of one Gosport lodge across generations.

Charity and community

Read our charity and community page for an introduction to the causes supported by the lodge, and the dated news archive for accounts of particular activities. Historical stories describe what happened at the time; current appeals and arrangements should be confirmed with the lodge.

Freemasonry beyond Gosport

Alwarestoch is part of a wider provincial community. Our Hampshire & Isle of Wight guide explains where our lodge fits and points to official provincial information.
